SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday : Need to be flexible for schedule changes
STATUS: Full Time, Hourly

This position directly supervises and directs the day to day work and activities of the production crew. Also directs live and taped broadcasts including television news as needed.

Previous experience directing live newscasts. Possess knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operations of television systems. Ability to work effectively in a high intensity, live environment with a number of people. Proven leadership skills and prior supervisory experience preferred. Also previous Graphic Design experience required which includes Non-linear editing, After Effects and Photoshop. Need to be able to make decisions and judgements quickly. often in a fast-paced, chaotic environment. Must be able to represent KAAL-TV and Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. in a professional manner. Master Control and Engineering experience a plus.

DUTIES:

  • Direct live and taped programming including newscasts, commercial production and station promotions. Assumes responsibility for Directing newscasts and other programs.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of production crewmembers. Includes interviewing, training, scheduling, communication of instructions, resolving conflicts, managing performance, investigating concerns. Works in concert with and makes recommendations to the Chief Engineer and/or General Manager.
  • Design graphics for newscasts, commercial production and station promotions.
  • Confer and collaborate with managers, production crew members, on-air talent and news producers to discuss details of production.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the program are complete before the program begins. Plan details such as framing, composition, camera movement, sound, for each shot or scene.
  • Coordinate with Producer to establish pace of newscasts and sequences of segments according to time requirements and accessibility. Ensure program runs smoothly during live broadcasts.
  • Understand and can articulate station's programming direction and philosophies.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours. Ability to work other hours or alternative schedules as needed, as assigned by station management with little or no notice.
  • Ability to relate and communicate in a productive manner to a variety of people including on air talent, visitors, production crew, producers, creative services and management.

  • Education, training, experience: 
    Must be able to stand for an extended period of time. Ability to move quickly in tight spaces through out the building and location. Ability to communicate information and ideas in English both verbally and in writing so that others will understand. Abilility to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Dexterity to manipulate computer keys and other controls in the studios including cameras as well as other office equipment.
